Search Facebook without logging in

Facebook keeps its people search behind a login, but millions of public profiles, pages and groups are indexed by Google. Search here to find them without signing in.

Know the handle? Open the profile

Public profiles usually open without a login when you go straight to the address.

How to find someone on Facebook

  1. Search the full name in quotes with a town, school or employer. Facebook profiles often list all three.
  2. Tick Images only and look for a face you know. Profile and cover photos are public by default.
  3. Search the page for their workplace, school or local community group. People often turn up in the comments.
  4. If you know their username, open facebook.com/username directly.

Search tips for Facebook

  • For a business, add the town: "Joe's Plumbing" Swindon.
  • Search a group name in quotes to find public groups about a place or a hobby.
  • Maiden names and nicknames are common on Facebook. Try both.

Facebook questions

Can you search Facebook without an account?

Not on Facebook itself, because its search box needs a login. Public profiles and pages are indexed by Google, so a search like the one on this page finds them.

Will someone know I looked at their Facebook profile?

No. Facebook doesn't tell people who viewed their profile, and the apps that claim to show you don't work.

Why do I get a login screen when I open a result?

Facebook often lays a login prompt over pages for logged-out visitors. Most public pages still show their content underneath, or after you close the prompt.
